Dec. 1 CVCC Chorale Concert

Catawba Valley Community College’s Music Department presents a special winter concert, “An American Mass,” Tues., Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory.

The CVCC Chorale with orchestral and piano accompaniment will perform “An American Mass.” Written by Ron Kean, the missa brevis, or short mass, merges American hymns and spirituals with traditional liturgy, connecting several cultures. The combination of musical forms is intended to tell the history of the American spirit in song.

The Chorale will also present several seasonal and sacred octavos.

Guest soloists include mezzo soprano Cami Driver and baritone David Clark.

Driver toured with the Virginia Opera Company for three years and was offered a contract with the Washington Opera Company. She has performed on Grammy Award winning recordings and starred in lead and chorus opera roles and musical theater.

A CVCC music program graduate, Clark is the winner of state and regional National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions for senior men.
