Lee & Bielenberg of Taylorsville Awarded SECU Scholarships

The North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation recently presented two $5,000 scholarships to Catawba Valley Community College students Maiyeng Lee and Jennifer Bielenberg, both of Taylorsville.

The scholarships are given based on SECU’s philosophy of “People Helping People,” with recipients chosen by their demonstrations of leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement. The scholarships are funded solely by SECU’s membership and will be used to pay for tuition and other education expenses associated with the recipient’s education.

Lee is a first-year student enrolled in college transfer studies. A graduate of Alexander Central High School, she was involved in many academic and club activities, including Beta Club, Student Council, Quiz Bowl, Interact Club and year book staff. She volunteered for many activities, including the Head Start Christmas Party, backpacks for kids project and a Christmas food drive for the Christian Crisis Center. Lee also received the CVCC Abernathy 6th Grade Scholarship. She is the daughter of Chai Lee and Yer Her of Taylorsville.

Bielenberg is first-year student enrolled in the Photographic Technology program. A graduate of Alexander Central High School, she was involved in many academic and athletic activities, including track, LEO Club, Special Olympics volunteer and Relay for Life volunteer. She is the daughter of Mike and Sherry Wilson of Taylorsville.
